I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and also tell you about my biggest and newest project I now have in the works. I have made the decision to move away from my web development and start working more on application development working with relational database design, which is a love of mine. I can’t help it, I just get all excited when I look at a huge, completely organized and sorted database doing it’s thing. Besides that, if you really examine our lifestyle we live by databases all around us. Believe it or not even your old cookbook that Mom passed down to you is a type of database of recipes.

With that being said, I figured why not do more of what I truly love doing, database design. I am working mostly with FileMaker right now because it has come a long way and is so very useful. I also work with MS Access, mySQL, MS SQL, and a little DB2. I am working on building up base clientele for my freelance business. Too many companies now days just buy whatever is somewhat close to what they want and need then they try to make it work, or pay a fortune to have it customized. The sad truth is the majority of the time if they simply paid a little to have a custom application developed for their database needs it would make their business much more efficient and they would spend less money in the long run. Hey, I’m not even mentioning all the time wasted tring to fix or make work the software you just settled for. Why settle when what you really need and want is so easily within reach?

I wrote this script a few years ago after looking around and noticing how many people were making money off poor parents just to send an authentic looking letter from Santa. I wanted to offer a free version and thought to myself “well, if I offered email as opposed to snail mail I could easily offer it free!”. Not to mention everyone and their uncle has an email account now days. Heck, I see my kids classmates in grade school with cell phones already!
